The Events

Mount Kilimanjaro

Mount Kilimanjaro is situated in Northern Tanzania, is the highest peak in Africa and stands at just under 6,000 metres.

The climb up Kilimanjaro is a 6 day trek up the mountain, then a day and a half hike back down.  The route we are taking is the Machame route, which is meant to be one of the most beautiful but arduous challenges on the mountain.

Unfortunately this means that we will be camping all the way up the mountain rather than staying in the slightly more luxurious huts!

The hiking time varies day to day but is generally around 6-7 hours per day, culminating in the final day of the trek being a 14 hour epic hike to the summit!

Parish Walk

For any non-manxies reading, the Parish Walk is an annual road racewalking event around the Isle of Man which winds 85 miles (137 kms) around the Island visiting all of the churches and parishes.  The requirement is that the walk must be completed in 24 hours, which means walking though day and night, up and down hills at an average walking pace of approximately 4mph.  For those who have never taken part in the walk before it is considered extremely tough and something definitely not to be taken lightly!
